The European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion seeks to
achieve the following objectives:
Recognition of rights: Make visible and recognize the right of
people experiencing poverty and social exclusion to live with dignity and to
play an active role in society and to participate in the policies
developed.
Upholding share responsibility and participation: Promote the social
support for the social inclusion policies emphasizing the collective and
individual responsibility and promoting the commitment and the participation of
all actors, public and private, in the fight against the poverty and social
exclusion.
Promoting social cohesion: Work for a more cohesive and joint
society in which nobody doubts of benefits that the eradication of the poverty
has for whole society, in the framework of a guaranteed sustainable development
and equal opportunities.
Commitment and action: Renew the commitment of the European Union
and its Member States to the fight against poverty and social exclusion and
involving all political levels to achieve poverty eradication, promoting
further the action of Member States and the European Union in this field.
